During the 2nd world war, Debussy was inspired by a letter written to him by Stravinsky, expressing the need for the composers of the day to write beautiful music for when the canons ceased. He decided upon the sonorous combination of flute, viola and harp to create one of his greatest and final masterpieces.
This ground-breaking combination of instruments has gone on to inspire many composers to write for this chamber ensemble and we are enjoying exploring the endless possibilities of the combination.
